The DERBY brand is a relatively new brand of cigarettes that comes out of Anhui province, a poor place where most people want to migrate to a wealthier city. It was four years ago that a poor farmer decided to plant tobacco and see if he could sell it for a profit.

He has done fabulously. Not only does he grow his own tobacco, he now owns his own cigarette factory. And, unlike most modern tobacco nowadays, he grows his tobacco plants organically. In fact, this practice is unheard of in the modern world. The owner, Mr Shao, has decided to sacrifice larger crop yields for a smoother, more natural taste, that is noticably earthy and rustic

He swears by his own cigarettes, and since he uses no chemical fertilizers OR cigarette additives, he feels no compunction about encouraging his grammar school sons to smoke. Even his dog chews a few tobacco leaves each day, after which he can be seen sleeping belly up in the chicken coop.
